PUTTING THE “DAD” IN “DADA ISSUES”
Today’s newsletter is almost entirely about Terrible Fatherhood. Why? I don’t know. As they say, “it’s Father’s Day somewhere!”
The next one is a bit dense and may require zooming.
The thing that always disturbed me about human cruelty is how someone can be horrible to you in a group, then quickly slide back into decency, when it’s just two of you. This awkward transition betrays something deeply uncomfortable for the bully, they tend to get a bit chuckley and coy, expecting a confirmation that everything is fine between you. This dynamic manifests itself most clearly at school, but I think it persists through life, adapting and evolving, at work, and in retirement homes. It makes me very sad, and don’t know what you can do about it, other than make miserable comics.
Anyway, the next one is even worse:
LEONARD KRAVITZ=TERRIBLE FATHER
I was fairly proud of myself for Terrible Father’s blazer-and-tie-but-no-shirt look, so imagine my dismay when two days later renowned interior decorator Leonard Kravitz was photographed wearing this:
I looked far and wide for other examples, and couldn’t find any. Blazer and no shirt/tie: plentiful, but blazer & tie: just Leonard Kravitz and Terrible Father. Does that imply that Leonard Kravitz is Bad Father, or is it just a coincidence?
Because of my strict posting policy, I had to sit on the Terrible Father strips until the middle of the month, although I did share the gay one, and it was the only one where Terrible Father was wearing a shirt <facepalm.jpg>.
Understandably, you may conclude that I’m the one who stole the look from Leonard Kravitz, but I swear on everything that I hold dear: this is not the case.
I thought I’d double-check the Procreate file info to see if my file was indeed created before Kravitz’s appearance and I saw this:
LOST IN SCANLATION
I tried out the ‘scanning’ feature on the new iPadOS and it made some nice crappiness out of the notebook lines. Could’ve been interesting if you could adjust anything, but I’m sure there are other tools for that. A scanner, for instance.
A few more bits and bobs from my notebooks are hidden behind the paywall.
THE TERRIBLE FATHER EXTENDED CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
But first, more Terrible Father content for the freeloaders.
Beyond the paywall, more Terrible Father content, more sketches, more more more!
TERRIBLE FATHER FUMETTI
Fumetti is a photo comic for visually illiterate Italians. It was all the rage in the olden days—in Russia we had magazines like Cool and Cool Girl (make of that what you will) that had some top quality photo comics:
